We translate your Unique Value Propositions into an exciting, vivid business premise.
Press “Like” and “Share” so your network can see these ideas as well. You never know who in your network is looking for a new job right now.
You’ll be the one helping them.
You’re intelligent. You’ve been around the corner. You’ve had a successful career to date, but now you find you’re out of work. All of a sudden.
If, at your last job, you earned about $100,000/year, you are now losing about $400 a day. Every day.
That’s about $50 an hour.
If you earned more than that, the math is easy. Just scale up to your annualized package level, and divide by 50. Then divide that by 5. Then divide that by 8. You’ll have your new approximate hourly rate.
Can you afford to be out of work for very long? How much do you have in savings? Enough for a six-month search? Longer? How much do your monthly bills add up to?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the *average* job search lasts 20 weeks. And that was before COVID-19 and the massive layoffs/furloughs/firings that resulted.
Yes, you can read articles, you can peruse blog posts like ours, you can attend networking meetings for free at your church. You can listen to podcasts and attend webinars about job search, and try to put together a resume and a job search strategy that will land you your next job. And we agree – you should do all of these things.
Can you figure this job search thing out? Probably, yes.
The other side of the coin
Consider this. A Career Coach will write more resumes over the course of a week than you will probably write during your entire career.
Do you know how many coaches Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks has? At least 6. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, if not the best. Even though he’s played in the NFL for over 8 years, he still gets value from coaching different parts of his personality and different aspects of his game.
What if you land in 15 weeks, instead of the BLS estimate of 20 weeks? How much extra money is that in your savings account? How much more in your 401k? How much more vacation time will you accrue over the life of your career?
If you hire a career coach, you will shorten up your job search.
After all, when you need dental work, do you visit a heart surgeon? Or better yet, vice-versa?
When you are caught driving too fast, do you call on your friend the real estate attorney?
If I were a betting person, I’d say, “no,” to those last 3 questions, above.
If you’ve never considered hiring a coach before, here are a few roles that a Career Coach plays:
- Past Career Consultants
- Career Detectives
- Career Progression Guides
- Branding Experts
- Business Partners
- Drill Sergeants that become cheerleaders over time
But most importantly, career coaches are:
- *** Accountability Partners ***
BTW – if you make $100,000/year, and you land in 15 weeks instead of 20, that’s $10,000 in your pocket. Still think a career coach is expensive?
