The old cliche “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” carries more weight than ever in our current employment and career progression theater. In fact, we here at eCareerCoaching.com believe it should actually be “…who knows you.”
When done correctly, networking is actually fun and rewarding. Firstly, don’t go in with a stack of business cards, hoping to acquire as many as you can. That’s why folks hate networking events, and it’s slimy. Secondly, go in with the idea that you are going to help just one person – anyone – and you’ll feel better about networking. After all, you don’t know who knows your next boss.
